TURN AROUND. DON'T DROWN.

The winter of 2013-2014 was one of the coldest winters on record in Ohio. Fast forwarding two years to the winter of 2015-2016 when Ohio is experiencing one of the mildest winters on record leaves many Ohioans wondering… what crazy weather should we expect for Spring?

Historically, heavy melting winter snow, accompanied with warmer Spring rains leads to flooding in areas throughout the state wreaking havoc with the roadways.

The CDC reports that more than half of the flood related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water. A small car can be carried away by as little as twelve inches of rushing water while two feet of water will carry away most vehicles.

The Turn Around. Don’t Drown campaign, developed by the National Weather Service, has been in use for over ten years to educate the public on the dangers of driving in flooded areas. Drive safe this Spring and all year-round. When in doubt, turn around, don’t drown.
