End Period Poverty: Join in WCPH's period supply drive and March 25 period kit packing party

UPPER SANDUSKY, Ohio — Wyandot County Public Health has partnered with local businesses to fight period poverty during Women’s History Month in March with a period product supply drive March 1-25 and a Period Kit Packing Party on March 25.

Period poverty refers, in part, to a lack of access to menstrual products. While period supplies are a necessity for around half of the population of Wyandot County, access to these products is sometimes regarded as a luxury. Wyandot County Public Health is working with its partners to ensure that the community has access to these products any time they are needed.

Donations of packs of individually wrapped pads, tampons, and panty liners are collected until March 25 at 13 participating businesses including Upper Sandusky locations: Beca House Coffee, Creekside Boutique + Marketplace, Fort Eighty-Eight, Stoked Bar & Mechanical, Studio 100 Beauty Salon, Traum Brewing, T&T Underground, Upper Sandusky Community Library, Woven Yoga, and Wyandot County Public Health; Carey locations: Dorcas Carey Public Library and The Coffee Shop; and a Sycamore location: Imani Café.

Donations collected during the supply drive are used to build period supply kits that are provided free to the community through Wyandot County Public Health’s three Harm Reduction vending machines. These machines are stationed at Wyandot Memorial Hospital locations in Upper Sandusky and Carey including Wyandot Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department entrance, Koehler Pharmacy/Wyandot Memorial UrgentCare, and Wyandot Memorial Providers at Carey. The Harm Reduction vending machines allow the public to access free supplies including period kits, safe sex kits, medication disposal bags and naloxone whenever they are needed.

The community is invited to help Wyandot County Public Health pack donated supplies into the free period kits at a Period Kit Packing Party, 5-7 p.m., March 25, at T&T Underground, 111 N Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351. Attendees under the age of 21 are welcome to join in the fun for the duration of the event with an adult.
