April 13, 2020: COVID-19 Update

April 13, 2020 Wyandot County Public Health COVID-19 Update:

To date, 12 citizens of Wyandot County have tested positive for coronavirus, including two deaths. There are currently no COVID-19 patients hospitalized. Do not rely on the number of positive tests to determine when you need to protect yourself. Continue to practice social distancing. The Stay at Home Order was put in place to protect citizens through self-quarantine. Please take these regulations seriously to keep Wyandot County healthy.   See Facebook for specific Wyandot County data.

The Ohio Department of Health reported 6,975 confirmed and probable cases, 2,033 hospitalizations, and 274 deaths in Ohio. For additional statewide case information visit: https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/

Based on currently available information and clinical expertise, older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. This includes:
• People 65 years and older
• People who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility

People of all ages with underlying medical conditions, particularly if not well controlled, including:
• People with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
• People who have serious heart conditions
• People who are immunocompromised
o Many conditions can cause a person to be immunocompromised, including cancer treatment, smoking, bone marrow or organ transplantation, immune deficiencies, poorly controlled HIV or AIDS, and prolonged use of corticosteroids and other immune weakening medications.
• People with severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 40 or higher)
• People with diabetes
• People with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis
• People with liver disease

In order to help protect those most affected by the coronavirus, and assure that we continue to have hospital capacity to treat those that become ill, we must continue social distancing measures and practice good hygiene to slow the spread of coronavirus.
