Wyandot County Public Health is seeking a Public Health Nurse on an as-needed basis. The Public Health Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in promoting and facilitating initiatives aimed at the prevention and reduction of communicable diseases within Wyandot County. This role involves collaborating with team members or a delegating nurse to service various clients, including school nursing, community programs, and immunizations.

Position Details
Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing and delegating nurse, the Public Health Nurse (LPN) implements health promotion objectives/activities in specific health areas determined by the agency and program grants. Utilizes medical instruments/materials in examination of students and clients in school, home, and clinic settings. Respects confidentiality of protected and sensitive client information. The Public Health Nurse (LPN) must perform all job responsibilities and provide services to clients in accordance with the policies and procedures specified by the Ohio Department of Health guidelines, Ohio Board of Nursing, grant-funded program requirements, other regulatory agencies, contracts, and local health department directives.
A successful candidate demonstrates sound nursing judgements, appropriate nursing techniques, and compliance with safety standards, procedures and policies. A successful candidate also exhibits timely documentation and reporting, knowledge of safety and sanitation practices, the ability to plan, organize time, ability to meet deadlines, develop and maintain working relationships with associates, supervisors, and members of the public. This position is supported by contract services which are negotiated annually.
Qualifications
- Active Ohio LPN license
- Experience in public health or school nursing preferred
- Possess knowledge of child growth and development
- Must recognize deviations from normal
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively (via oral, written, or telephone) with:
- Clients/ client families
- Partner organization staff
- Delegating nurse
- Director of Nursing
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
- Must have reliable, safe transportation for work use
- Must carry an appropriate amount of liability insurance coverage for vehicles used for work-related travel
- Obtain or maintain valid certification for CPR
- Ability to use and adapt to various computer software including:
- Charting systems
- Disease reporting systems
Responsibilities
Must perform all job responsibilities and provide services to clients in accordance with the policies and procedures specified by the Ohio Department of Health guidelines, Ohio Board of Nursing, grant-funded program requirements, other regulatory agencies, contracts, and local health department directives:
- Program development
- Immunization Program and Clinics
- School Nursing
- Lice Prevention
- International travel information
- Assists with coordinating and conducting school health screenings
- Assists in consulting with school personnel regarding referrals, health education and services
- Reviews school immunization records of assigned students
- Conducts tuberculosis skin testing
- Interviews to obtain health histories
- Examines medical history of assigned students and informs school personnel of any pertinent medical facts
- Measures height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and/or temperature of clients
- Required to coordinate job duties with school personnel class schedules
- Required to complete all health-related reports assigned by Supervisor
- Attends IEP meetings for students as needed (if medically necessary)
- Conducts communicable disease investigation — staying current with ODRS reporting requirements
- Conducts School Medication Administration Training
- Other established Health Department programs and activities as requested by Supervisor
