With spring turkey season almost underway and mushroom season just around the corner, sportsmen are reminded to protect themselves from ticks when in the woods. As with most things in life, even the simple pleasure of going outdoors comes with some risks. In the spring those risks include being bitten by ticks, which may carry diseases like Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
So while enjoying your outdoor activities this spring, we encourage you and your family to protect yourselves by taking the following precautions;
- Wear light-colored clothing, long-sleeved shirts or jackets, and long slacks. If exposure to a tick infested area is unavoidable, tuck pants into socks or boots.
- Use repellants on clothing and exposed skin and follow label directions carefully.
- Frequently check your children and pets for ticks.
The Wyandot County Health Department wishes the public a safe and happy spring.
