April 1, 2020: COVID-19 Update

April 1, 2020 Wyandot County Public Health COVID-19 Update:

There have been many questions regarding the testing process for COVID-19. Currently, there are two positive test results in Wyandot County. Limited amounts of test kits are available, not only state-wide, but globally. Due to these limitations, The Ohio Department of Health is limiting their testing to specific groups of high risk individuals with severe symptoms, potentially exposed medical professionals, and first responders. Additional testing may be available through private labs; however, an order from your physician is required. Due to limited testing conducted for high risk individuals and long wait times for private labs, we are reminding the public that community spread of the virus is inevitable. Do not rely on the number of positive tests in Wyandot County, or in any county, to determine when you need to protect yourself. Continue to practice social distancing. The Stay at Home Order was put in place to protect citizens through self-quarantine. Please take these regulations seriously to keep Wyandot County healthy.

As of 2:00 PM Wednesday, the Ohio Department of Health reported 2547 confirmed cases, 679 hospitalization and 65 deaths. For additional statewide case information visit: https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/

The Ohio Department of Health has created a new dashboard at https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/home/dashboard .
This interactive dashboard will provide you both local and regional data.
